Your Team Is Already Using AI.

The Question Is Whether It’s Secure and Delivering Real Value. The pressure to adopt AI is coming from every direction.

Your board wants a strategy. Your competitors are already moving. And your employees are already using AI tools, whether IT approved them or not.

We help mid-market businesses turn that reality into a competitive advantage: secure the environment, unlock high-value use cases, and build the skills and governance so AI actually improves how your team works.

The opportunity is real. AI can seriously improve how your team works, reduce manual effort, and give your business a real competitive advantage. But, without proper security and governance, AI can expose client data, violate compliance requirements, and create vulnerabilities that your IT was never designed to handle.

Most mid-market businesses are caught between two uncomfortable positions: moving too fast and creating risk, or waiting too long and falling behind. There’s a better path, and it starts with understanding what’s already happening across your organization before deciding what to do next.

Want to know what AI tools your team is already using?

An AI readiness assessment starts with exactly that question.

Why 7 Layer

Why 7 Layer for AI

7 Layer Solutions helps mid-market businesses adopt AI the right way. It doesn’t matter how far along the AI journey your business is: we start where you are and lay the foundations for success in both AI security and value creation. Then, we assess your exposure, including what AI is already in use without IT approval, and employ tactics to secure your environment. We identify the highest-value use cases for your specific work, implement the right tools, and build the framework that keeps your data protected and your leadership confident.

Shadow AI

The Risk Most Businesses Miss

Right now, employees at most mid-market businesses are using AI tools that IT has never reviewed or approved. They’re pasting client contracts into public AI platforms, summarizing financial reports in tools your security team has never seen, and connecting unapproved apps directly to business data.

They’re not trying to create risk. They’re trying to work faster.

This is shadow AI, and it’s one of the fastest-growing security risks in mid-market organizations today.

Blocking access to AI tools doesn’t solve it. It pushes the behavior into channels that are harder to see and harder to control. The answer is a governance framework that gives your team approved, secure tools and clear policies built around how they actually work.

What We Cover

What We Offer

Bespoke AI Implementation

We have experience configuring AI services across all major platforms, including Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, and Perplexity. Whether you want an industry-trusted AI product or to create your own in-house AI models and services (running on-premises or in the cloud), our AI Solutions team can turn ideas into reality. We will work side-by-side with you to determine your needs and find the most effective solutions.

Executive Enablement & Leadership Coaching

Successful businesses thrive due to top-down leadership. AI adoption is the same. We provide executives and leaders with the skills and tools to shape their organization’s AI growth from the top. Through our executive enablement and leadership coaching programs, leaders will gain the knowledge and ability to drive AI discussions, plan high value use cases, and communicate technical details downstream. We aim to “train the trainer” so that department heads and team leads become “AI champions”, who can teach direct reports, and so knowledge gains can cascade through departments and be shared across the company.

Org-Wide Training

To get your entire organization up-to-speed, we offer a basic training program for the AI platform of your choice. As your organization’s AI maturity grows, we provide extended learning opportunities and targeted knowledge transfers to match your workers’ AI skill level and department needs. “AI champions” within your company can complement or direct further training for their teams.

Microsoft Copilot Integration

Connecting AI to Microsoft products can save your team real hours every week. It can also surface sensitive files and emails to employees who should never see them, if your Microsoft 365 permissions aren’t configured correctly first.

Most organizations that have grown over time have permissions far broader than they realize. We handle AI-Microsoft 365 integration from end to end: tenant readiness assessment, access control configuration, sensitivity labeling, data loss prevention policies, and employee training. Your team gets the productivity and your data stays where it belongs.

Secure AI Adoption for Business

We’ll audit your current AI exposure, find where unsanctioned tools are in use, establish approved use cases, build a governance policy, and deploy tools that meet your security and compliance requirements. You end up with an AI environment your organization controls and can defend.

Custom AI Solutions

When off-the-shelf AI tools don’t fit your workflows, we design and build custom solutions including document processing automation, contract review tools, operational reporting systems, and internal AI assistants. All built to your specifications and integrated with your systems from the start.

Egnyte AI & Content Management

We implement and manage Egnyte AI for organizations that need secure document access, controlled file sharing, and governance for sensitive content. Helpful for private equity firms and professional services businesses managing confidential client and deal data.

AI Use Case Discovery

A structured workshop with your team to identify where AI can reduce manual work, accelerate decisions, and drive efficiency in your specific business context. Most sessions surface three to five concrete, implementable opportunities.

Solution Consulting

To get projects off the ground, our AI Solutions team can assist company-led AI projects through insights and technical support. We help by defining workflows, identifying gaps, and marrying low-level concepts with high-level design. We aid clients in many different capacities – from hands-on engineering to architecture advice, depending on your needs.

Our Approach

How We Approach AI Projects

  1. 01

    Use Case Discovery

A structured session to find the highest-value, lowest-risk AI opportunities in your specific environment and workflows.

  2. 02

    Security and Risk Review

Before any tool is selected or deployed, we’ll audit your data sensitivity, existing access controls, compliance requirements, and current shadow AI exposure.

  3. 03

    Implementation

We configure, deploy, and integrate approved AI tools with your existing infrastructure, identity management, and security stack.

  4. 04

    Training and Governance

Employees will learn how to use approved tools correctly and within policy. Guidelines are documented. Technical guardrails are in place before anyone goes live.

  5. 05

We monitor usage, flag anything unusual, and refine configurations as needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

We’ve rolled out some AI products already. Can you still help us?

Yes. We help clients at all stages of the AI adoption lifecycle. Our process is inclusive, and we support pre-existing AI services and new AI products alike. We’ll still work with your executives to align AI governance and organization AI use to meet your AI vision. We always adapt to meet your organization’s needs.

We are already using Microsoft 365. Does that mean Copilot is safe to turn on?

Not automatically. Copilot surfaces information based on what each user already has permission to access in your Microsoft 365 environment. Most organizations have permissions far broader than they realize. That means Copilot can expose sensitive files and emails to employees who should never see them. You’ll need a tenant readiness review, access audit, and sensitivity labeling in place before you turn it on.

What is shadow AI?

Shadow AI is any AI tool your employees are using without IT review or approval. In practice, that usually means public AI platforms being used for business tasks: drafting emails, summarizing contracts, analyzing reports. The risk is that the data your team enters into those platforms leaves your control entirely and may be retained or used to train future models — or stolen by bad actors, if submitted to compromised AI tools. If you don’t control where your data is being submitted, you can’t control where it is going.

Do I need to be a large company to benefit from AI tools?

No. Most of our AI clients have between 100 and 300 employees. At that scale, the most effective tools tend to be practical and focused: Microsoft Copilot for daily productivity, document processing automation, and reporting tools that reduce manual work. Enterprise-scale infrastructure isn’t a prerequisite for meaningful AI adoption.

Can you help us build a custom AI tool?

Yes. We’ll assess technical and security feasibility, and build an application your team can realistically use and maintain, once we’ve matched the right solution to your business need.

Our current IT department doesn’t support AI. Can you help us?

Yes. We can work alongside your pre-existing IT provider to provide guidance and configuration support for AI services and build out custom AI solutions that meet your IT team’s standards. Additionally, we can supplement your current IT services with our AI consulting and soft skills, providing your business with training, coaching, and guidance for practical use cases, realized productivity, and actionable AI goals.
